This is an ongoing series as HOTSPROTSTAKES.com follows along with the Amarillo Lone Stars for their entire 68-game schedule. Fresh off an 8-run ninth inning in a dramatic season-opening win, the Amarillo Lone Stars continued their hot hitting by racking up 18 hits on the way to an 11-6 win over the Trinidad Triggers on Thursday afternoon.
Eight of the nine Lone Star (2-0) batters collected at least one hit in the win, led by Nobody (yes that’s a player name) going 3 for 4.
Visiting Trinidad (0-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and a half, scoring a pair in the first, followed by a single run in the second.
But from there it was all Lone Stars, as the hosts rebounded for five runs in the bottom of the second for a 5-3 lead, then added four more in the third for a 9-3 lead they would not relinquish.
The Lone Stars added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to stretch the lead to 11-3 before the visiting Triggers brought the final margin to 11-6 with three in the top of the ninth.
Lone Stars starting pitcher Hugh Blanton (1-0) tossed all nine innings, scattering 10 hits and pitching around three errors. Blanton also helped is own cause at the dish by collecting two hits, including a two-run double.
Trinidad’s Louis Hribar took the loss.
