This is an ongoing series as HOTSPROTSTAKES.com follows along with the Amarillo Lone Stars for their entire 68-game schedule. The Amarillo Lone Stars are not real, the games are not real, yet, someone decided to play a full season of pretend games on Facebook. We even made the team. Check back daily for game recaps!
For four-and-a-half innings it looked like the Garden City Wind would snap the Amarillo Lone Stars’ historic start to the 2017 pretend season.
But the Lone Stars erupted for eight runs over their final four at-bats to rally for a 10-9 victory over the Wind and to reach 7-0.
The visiting Wind jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first three-and-a-half innings before the Lone Stars countered with two in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead in half.
But Garden City was able to answer with four runs in the top of the fifth, three of them coming on a Kyle Peralta home run to stretch the Wind lead to 8-2.
But that’s when the Amarillo bats took over and started the comeback. The Lone Stars countered Garden City’s four in the fifth with five runs of their own, including a three-run home run by Who (that’s a player on the team) to cut the deficit to 8-7.
Each team added a run in the sixth to make it 9-8 for the Wind, and after a scoreless seventh, the Lone Stars struck twice in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for the first time.
Why (another player) doubled home a run to tie the game, 9-9, and then Wind reliever Chaz Miller lost his control, throwing two wild pitches to allow Why to score the go-ahead run.
Kenny The Kid then came on in the ninth and recorded a 1-2-3 inning for his first save of the year, making a winner out of Roger Simonson, who pitched the first eight innings, giving up nine runs to Garden City, all earned.
And in case you thought we were making this up, here is today’s screengrab from the Lone Stars Facebook page:
The Amarillo Lone Stars are now 7-0 and will put their perfect record on the line Wednesday with another game at home against the Garden City Wind, closing out a four-game series.
HOTSPROTSTAKES.com’s Ronnie “The Snake Charmer” Balasko again did not play, his season line remains: 1GP, .000/.000/.000, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R.
