NHL Playoffs: Conference Finals Retrospectives and Stanley Cup Final Preview

Conference Finals Retrospectives

Western Conference

Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 Winnipeg Jets

Whatever. I don’t get these playoffs. I don’t get this team. It’s a good top line and one of the best post-seasons I’ve ever seen a goalie play. And they almost looked bored dispatching one of the best teams in the league.

Eastern Conference

Washington Capitals 4-3 Tampa Bay Lightning

What a series. Tampa looked dead in the water after falling behind 2-0 at home and folks, the games were not close. The Bolts stormed back to win three straight, setting off a firestorm of “they are who we thought they were” memes about the Caps collapsing in the playoffs again. But Ovechkin and company held strong shutting out the Lightning in games 6 and 7 to win the series with a pair of fairly comfortable tilts. They’ve got some more wear on their legs than do the Knights, but Holtby is playing well enough, combined with a bit of good fortune, to contend with Fleury in the Cup Final.
