Old School Video Game Review: Backbreaker

The main selling point of the game was its unique physics engine, called “elation,” which promised uniquely different tackles on every play, something its then-competitors “Madden” and “Blitz: The League” (amongst others) were unable to offer at … Continue reading Old School Video Game Review: Backbreaker

Australian, Canadian football video games coming this summer

Ever since EA Sports’ Madden franchise bought the exclusive NFL rights, and the NCAA Football series had to shut down due to legal issues, there has been a big gap in football games on modern consoles.

Third party football games used to be rampant, the NFL 2k series was a lot of fun while it lasted, NFL Blitz hasn’t been made for years after trying to play without the NFL license, and even things like Mutant League Football were there to try and spice things up.

This summer, two new football games AFL (Aussie Rules) Evolution and Canadian Football 2017 aim to fill that void in different ways.

HOTSPROTSTAKES Draft: Alternative sports video games

With football season over and most sports that are playing slogging towards the end of their respective regular season, the staff here at HOTSPROTSTAKES decided it was time to pick some of our favorite alternative sports video games.

The rules were simple: Alternative sports games, like Blitz, NBA Jam or any of the Mario sports game, not simulations or attempted simulations like NHL 94 or old Madden Games. Five rounds, snake draft.

If you picked a series like say, SSX, you get all of the games in that series, this saves us from arguing over slight variations of the game that are really the same game but just made kind of different two years later so they could have more money.

Here’s how the draft went down.
