The dream of a publicly-funded soccer stadium in downtown St. Louis is dead.
Voters in the city decided against Proposition 2, a half-cent increase on the use tax on city businesses, by a final margin of 30,603 ‘no’ votes to 27,363 ‘yes’ votes, according to KSDK-TV.
Proposition 2 was key to the platform of SC St. Louis’ MLS bid, but it failed by a fairly wide margin, rendering any chance of a promotion for the USL side pretty much dead.

An ownership group in San Diego, comprised of former U.S. Men’s National Team Captain Landon Donovan and other influential San Diego business people, revealed the results of their fan vote today, which garnered a lot of national attention over the past few weeks.
Today, they released a video on their Facebook page to reveal the name of the squad. Landon Donovan also posted on his Twitter (which is a rare sight) to announce the news.

There’s been a lot of recent buzz about expansion in Major League Soccer, the top tier of American soccer.
Part of that has been fueled by the league. MLS introduced two new franchises, Minnesota United FC and Atlanta United, this season and a lot of eyes have justifiably been set on those two squads.

The 2017 MLS season is almost here, kicking off Friday, and what a year it is shaping up to be.
There are two new teams in Atlanta and Minnesota, bringing the league up to 22 teams for this season. There are tons of new players joining the league, as well as old faces who have moved on to new teams.
The league also had arguably its most exciting playoffs ever last season, and this year should provide just as much excitement.
